Dr. John – Gris-Gris – 320 KBPS

Dr. John Gris Gris 320 Kbps

Gris-Gris is the debut album by Dr. John. Produced by Harold Battiste, it was released on Atco Records in 1968. The musical style of Gris-Gris is a hybrid of New Orleans rhythm and blues and psychedelic rock. Despite the New Orleans style, it was recorded in California with several native New Orleans musicians.

Gris-Gris failed to chart in the United Kingdom and the United States. It was re-issued on compact disc decades later and received much greater praise from modern critics, including being listed at #143 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Brazil – OST – Michael Kamen
Label: Milan Records | HQ MP3 CBR | 320kbps – 90MB | Covers included

With Brazil, Michael Kamen achieves what few composers in any medium have done; fusing a stunning variety of forms (ranging from symphonic to jazz to 1930s pop), stuff them with allusions, and make the final result as gloriously, giddily romantic as it is heartbreaking. Michael Kamen has created one of the greatest dreamscapes in musical history. This is kind of a request and I hope some of you will enjoy it as well.

John Smith leads a rag-tag band of English sailors & soldiers to the New World to plunder its riches for England (or, more precisely, for Governor Ratcliffe, who comes along for the ride). Meanwhile, in this “New World,” Chief Powhatan has pledged his daughter, Pocahontas, to be married to the village’s greatest warrior. Pocahontas, however, has other ideas. She has seen a vision of a spinning arrow, a vision she believes tells her change is coming. Her life does indeed change when the English ship lands near her village. Between Ratcliffe, who believes the “savages” are hiding the gold he expected to be plentiful, and Powhatan, who believes these pale newcomers will destroy their land, Smith and Pocahontas have a difficult time preventing all-out war, and saving their love for each other.

Review: Metal-Observer (6/10)

It would be a little far fetched to define me as a great CHILDREN OF BODOM fan, but anyway I have their complete discography and I’ve listenen to them since their very beginning. Together with IN FLAMES they are the band of the moment. Backbiters may say it is a mainstream band but I think that COB cannot be called an extreme band. These guys are fairly musical but also heavy and for that very interesting and never boring.

The studio albums seem like an engine with the compressor. No matter how much you press the accelerator, you always get full speed. The same happens with COB, no matter which album you listen to, they keep going on, above all in the last works. But there is a great difference between a studio album and a live version.  I have to say that everyone who has seen or listened to COB live knows that their performance does never reach the quality of the studio albums and the same happens with “Stockholm Knockout Live”.

A weak point particularly annoying for me and that gets worse after each listening is the sound. The label on the CD says “2 cd set of the most intense live shredding to date” and it gives you some expectations. Keyboard, guitars und voals are all but clear and easy to hear, they are all mixed in a mash of noises. Even in the best stereo at middle volume you have the feeling that something is going to burst. The guitars have too much overdrive, some riffs go down and make a terrible noise. Here and there there is some confusion, all in all the impression is not good. It seems Alexi pushes on his fretboard a little too much. Even the usual COB keyboard passages are raw and punchy. Maybe the aim was to be aggressive and hard but the result is annoying and does not give a moshpit atmosphere.

Towards the end the guys seem a little tired, first of all Alexi. Especially the last two songs, among the best of COB, are a bit “passive”, the tempo is wrong, the voice goes down as in all the faster and harder parts. The infamous announcements, which are almost exclusively the f-word, are perfectly understandable, though.

It’s a pity that the problem with the sound ruins especially the old songs even because the set list is dominated by the last two albums “Hatecrew Deathroll” and “Are You Dead Yet?”. The songs from “Hatecrew” are still acceptable but the newest and the old ones seem too overloaded and distorted. The choice of the songs is somewhat unbalanced.

Obviously I cannot just badmouth everything. I have to admit that despite the bad sound there is some power coming through. You can feel the enthusiasm of the crowd, their energy and for fans of COB I can still recommend this CD. As live album I prefer “Tokyo Warhearts” even though they do not contain the most recent killers. Seeing the quality of the studio albums and the potential of the band, “Stockholm Knockout Live” is just an ordinary album, absolutely not appetizing.

Here Come the Warm Jets is the debut solo album by Brian Eno. Produced by Eno, it was released on Island Records in 1974. The musical style of Here Come the Warm Jets is a hybrid of glam rock and art rock, similar to Eno’s previous album work with Roxy Music but with songs that are more quirky and experimental. The album features various guest musicians, including Robert Fripp of King Crimson, members of Roxy Music, Hawkwind, Matching Mole, and The Pink Fairies. In developing the album’s words and music, Eno used abstract methods such as dancing for his band members and having them play accordingly, and singing nonsense words to himself that would form the basis of subsequent lyrics.
Here Come the Warm Jets peaked at number 26 on the United Kingdom album charts and number 151 on the U.S. Billboard charts, receiving a number of positive reviews. It was re-issued on compact disc in 1990 on Island Records and in 2004 on Virgin Records, and continued to elicit praise. Critic Steve Huey of Allmusic stated that the album “still sounds exciting, forward-looking, and densely detailed, revealing more intricacies with every play”.
The songs on Here Come the Warm Jets reference various musical styles from the past and present. The overall style of the album has been described as “glammed-up art-pop”, showcasing glam rock’s simple yet theatrical crunchy guitar rock and art-rock’s sonic texture and avant-garde influences.

Fresh faced and naive, 17-year-old Bennie arrives in Buenos Aires to search for his older brother who has been missing for more than a decade. The family had emigrated from Italy to Argentina, but with the great musical success of their father Carlo, an acclaimed symphony conductor, the family moved from Argentina to New York. When Bennie finds his brother, the volatile and melancholy poet Tetro, he is not at all what he expected. In the course of staying with Tetro and his girlfriend Miranda, the two brothers grapple with the haunting experiences of their shared past.

Review: Metal-Observer (9/10)

So a new GRAVE DIGGER album then? So expect the same bone crushing, head slitting, foot stomping Heavy Metal then from one of Germany’s finest musical exports. ‘’The Last Supper’’ drops the concept album articulation as seen on 2003’s (excellent) ‘’Rheingold’’ in favour of a back to basic all out Metal assault which is pretty much what Boltendahl and cohorts have been doing year in year out since the early 80’s.

Expect the harsh, rasping utterly unique vocals of Chris Boltendahl. They’re still there and show no signs of dissipating. Expect a solid, sure and steady nothing out of the ordinary rhythm unit from Stefan Arnold and Jens Becker. You’d expect nothing less from a German Power Metal band but they nail down pounding drum and bass like their life’s depended on it. And then add the awesome riff fire power of Manni Schmidt plus his electrifying solo delivery to give a pure feral primordial Metal sound that only and only GRAVE DIGGER can produce.

Let’s not over emphasis the passion and commitment of GRAVE DIGGER. Band members have come and gone but still Boltendahl melds and fuses great burgeoning guitar riffs with that indefatigable vocal to release volley after volley of masterly Heavy Metal.

‘’The Last Supper’’ concerns itself with the last hours of Christ and no it isn’t STRYPER and the band are going all evangelical. The almost polished branching out focus on ‘’Rheingold’’ is put aside for another day as GRAVE DIGGER set all amps to maximum Metal. True Metal behemoths rise from the silence like the pounding ‘’Desert Rose’’. The frantic opening to ‘’Hell To Pay’’ letting loose yet another top class riff from Schmidt or the simple Metal effectiveness of ‘’Soul Savior’’ or ‘’Divided Cross’’ only strengthen my resolve in this outfit. It’s plain to see where PRIMAL FEAR have got their ideas.

This is Heavy Metal. There are no gimmicks no tricks and certainly no posturing. It’s straight ahead power, energy and force all combined to offer up a band who have little left to prove and have no obvious equals as they’ve been around the block more times than they’d care to mention. There is something resolute and comforting that band like GRAVE DIGGER is here to serve up what exactly they say they will: fist in the air chanting head banging Heavy ~censored~’ Metal.

We salute you!
